...shut up and eat.
Strange, but nice day off. I got up early as per usual, to feed the animals. I fed myself and tried to start reading another book my sister let me borrow. I just finished one she lent me that was nearly 800 pages! Finished that yesterday. I'm surprised I endured the whole thing- not that it wasn't good- it was for its genre, but I don't normally read books that incredibly long. Don't regret it though. It was called The Crimson Petal & the White, strange title for what amounts to a story about a 19th century prostitute that finds herself a wealthy benefactor. It ends very abruptly, kind of like a Catcher in the Rye type ending- but didn't piss me off like that ending did. But 800 pages and left to come to my own conclusions? Really? Surely creative authors could do better than that. Tsk Tsk. Anyhow, I couldn't crack this next book she gave me. This main character who's a male model, says "baby" as much as a Tarantino movie says "fuck". I fell asleep. Slept till after 12pm with my cat sleeping on her "leopard" fur blanket at the foot of my bed. I got up, took a shower, ate a couple of pieces of left over pizza from last night- grabbed Wicked's keys and went for a drive. We stopped at Starbucks about 30 minutes down the road and I attempted to read that book again. Geez could the dialogue get any more boring? This guy wrote American Psycho (this book is called Glamorama) and is one of those "award winning" authors, but good lord he can't hook my mind with his character's meaningless babble. I left and drove back to my neighborhood. My grandma gave me a $50 check for my b-day. So even though I could easily use that money on bills, I am always determined to use b-day money as b-day money. So after much deliberation I stopped at Borders because obviously, I've nothing left I want to read. Not really being in a shopping mood, I wasn't finding much of interest. Until I went to the bargain section. The entire 13 volume set of A Series of Unfortunate Events for only 50 bucks. I was going to buy that set a few months back for the full $100 price- but balked. I'm glad I did. Not only did I get them cheaper- but the gal at the desk rang them up with the coupon (which I think the fine print actually excluded my discounted purchase) and I got them for $37! I wasn't about to bring that to her attention, hell maybe she was just trying to be nice. I know, I know, they're "kid's" books- but it's not like Harry Potter and the Twighlight series aren't (and I haven't bothered with those). Besides, I think these stories are much more up my alley. It will take me no time to read them all I'm sure, but it will be a nice change of pace from the super serious literature I had just finished reading. I figure it would be a nice thing to give to my nephew in the future if he turns out to be a reader. Doesn't seem like too many boys like to read. They turn into men who don't read anything but magazines at best. Sad. So I've cleaned my room and started book 1 of the series. I have cage cleanings to do tomorrow for my rodents, and meeting my old colleague for lunch. It's been threatening to rain all day. So fall is definitely is on its way.
