Tuesday Night Tragedy

Sometimes I wonder if my life's consistent bouts with bad luck will keep me from getting a HUGE dose of it like the story below....

I went to my car show on tuesday night. Before I left work one of my car show friends, who I refer to as Mercury 'cause that's what he drives- called and told me another way to get into the show- that there'd been an accident. Ok. Cool.

I figured a fender bender, maybe with some spectators on the street, or even participants. Well it was participants alright- but there was no fender bender.

Apparently (as a witness account from my friends) a guy with a hot-rodded pick-up was parking. At the best guess of my friends, (we back into our spots) they think he meant to have it in drive to straighten out then back in. However, he was in reverse, may have panicked and hit the accelerator harder and not only hit his friend's car, but hit his friend that was sitting in a spectator chair along a building on the street. Pinning his friend. The impact was so forceful that it knocked an iron garbage can out of the way, put a good sized dent in a cement/brick building and totaled his pick-up. It was an accordion.

My friends ran over to help. They had to pick up the truck to move it away from the man who was pinned and because the door of the truck wouldn't open- pull the other guy through the window. The guy in the truck is going to make it, last we heard. However, the man who was pinned may not have. Last I heard he was in critical condition. He has a broken rib with a punctured lung, and a crushed pelvis. Most people could survive the surgeries involved, but because the man is obese and not in the greatest health (he's much older as well)- they thought he might not make it. So I guess I'll have to wait till next week in order to find out what happened.

I sure hope both men are ok. I also hope that they don't shut down this car show for a total freak accident. It's the best, and usually the only show I go to since it's the easiest place for me to get since I work during most of them.

I'll be going to the next one for sure- I will miss the one after since I'll be in Arizona. I'll cross my fingers for all of this to end ok.

We did have a nice time, despite the tragedy. It was good to see everybody again. You should have seen the guys line up to hug me. Heh. They're cute. Even ones I didn't know got all jealous so I gave them hugs too. I'm such a hug whore at car shows. My coupe friend that I hang out with on a more personal basis was also there to hang out. So I tried to bring him into my little fold. He left early, so I'm not sure if he was comfortable with the situation. Oh well. My friend Mercury fed some flames to Wicked's devil theme by bringing me a present- a t-shirt with a devil head, says "Road Demon" over it. We all went to dinner at the local grill down the street- I didn't order anything but Mercury shared his zucchini sticks with me and another his french fries.

I had a good night.
